Then, when he says, "let their ways be," a comparison is set forth regarding the second impediment, that is, regarding the course of the way; and he sets forth three impediments on the way. The first is darkness, because then one easily stumbles. "Let their ways," that is, their progress, "become darkness." The second is that the way be slippery and prone to falling: Lam. 4: "Our steps have slipped in the path of our ways."
