About
About VRSZ
VRSZ is a place to read the Bible slowly, hear how the Church Fathers understood it, and share a verse with the world through the Church's great art.
What you can do here
- Read any chapter of the Bible in the King James Version or the World English Bible.
- Hear the Fathers. Tap a verse to read what saints like John Chrysostom, Basil, Cyril, Augustine, Ambrose and Bede wrote about it, from the East, the West, or both. Every quote links to the full text it came from.
- Make a card. Press and drag to highlight words, pick from four icons or paintings that fit the passage, or add your own photo, then save it or share it.
Icons are holy, and we treat them that way
An icon is not decoration. It is a window, venerated in the Church. On VRSZ an icon is always shown whole and in its own shape, in a gold frame, and the words of Scripture sit beneath it. We never write over an icon, crop it, or put it on a joke.
Where it all comes from
The Bible translations, the paintings and icons, and the Fathers' writings used here are in the public domain or shared under open licenses by the museums and libraries that keep them. See Credits & Sources for the details.
Who makes it
VRSZ is a small independent project. It is free to use. If it has helped you, you can help keep it going, and if something is wrong, please tell us.
