For it is possible to serve in simplicity of heart and sincerely, but not with all one's strength, fulfilling only some particular task; therefore he now adds: "from the soul," that is, with all strength and readiness; even "with zeal," that is, with complete devotion and willingness, and not under compulsion. In such a case, even the lowliness of servitude is removed, if slaves voluntarily do good and do not wait for compulsion and beatings. …

How should this be done? From the heart. "Whatsoever you do, do it from the heart, as to the Lord, and not to men" (Col. 3:23). You should act with a good will, that is, with the right intention; "that you may stand perfect and full in all the will of God" (Col. 4:12).
