What the Fathers say

2 Timothy 1:17

Eastern Fathers

Theophylact of Ohrid

Not only did he not avoid my misfortune, but he even sought me out and found me: such is courage! such is faith.

Commentary on 2 Timothy ↗

Oecumenius

But when he was in Rome, he diligently sought me out and found me. he diligently sought me out. Not only, Paul says, did he not avoid my presence, although there was danger and he encountered me after being imprisoned, but he also sought me more earnestly than he owed until he found me. And those who share in the sufferings with the saints will also share in the crowns, as Paul himself says. "Well done, having shared my suffering." (Philip. 4:14)

Commentary On 2 Timothy ↗

Western Saints

Thomas Aquinas

But when he was come to Rome, he carefully sought me, as a friend does: if you would get a friend, try him before you take him (Sir 6:7); he that is a friend loves at all times (Prov 17:17).
