Third, from the dignity of man: and therefore he says: "man," who was made to the image of God, "has bowed himself down," in putting himself under idols; "man," who seems powerful as to acquired things, "has been debased": "man when he was in honor did not understand; he is compared to senseless beasts, and is become like to them" (Ps 49:12). Below: "he bows down before it, and adores it, and prays unto it, saying: deliver me" (Isa 44:17). "Therefore forgive them not." Here he threatens them with punishment. …
