We have this hope as an anchor. For just as an anchor gives stability to ships during a storm, so too hope makes firm and patient those who waver under the influence of temptations. He did not simply say "anchor," but "sure and steadfast." For there is an anchor that does not preserve the stability of a ship, either when it is damaged or when it is too light. …
