Theophylact of Ohrid

He brings two examples and mentions not ancient events, but recent ones, because these latter are more powerful for persuasion. Therefore, pointing to them, Gamaliel said "before these days." Knowing other examples as well, he was satisfied with these two, that is, the example of Theudas and Judas the Galilean (see v. 37), because "by the mouth of two or three witnesses" every word "is established" (Matt. 18:16). He did not say by whom they were killed, but says that all were scattered. …
