This is a rule of the most perfect Christianity, this is a landmark exactly laid down, this is the point that stands highest of all; viz. the seeking those things which are for the common profit: which also Paul himself declared, by adding, "even as I also am of Christ." For nothing can so make a man an imitator of Christ as caring for his neighbors. …
Theophylact of Ohrid
Do not take the words "as I imitate Christ" as an expression of pride; they are said with the purpose of more strongly urging toward imitation. For if, he says, I imitated Christ, who did not spare His own life so that you might live, can you not all the more imitate me? For I am not as much better than you as He is better than me: He incomparably surpasses all.

For even Jesus Christ does all things according to the will of the Father, as He Himself declares in a certain place, "I do always those things that please Him."
