Thomas Aquinas

"But you have hated discipline." Here he shows the evils that sinners commit. And they commit two evils: the first is that they hate divine correction. Hence he says, "But you have hated discipline." This correction of morals is accomplished through difficult things. Heb. 12: "All discipline for the present indeed seems not to be of joy, but of sorrow." The wicked hate this. Heb. 12: "If you are without discipline," etc. Ps. 118: "Goodness and discipline," etc. …
